Commercial Technology Solicitor

Location: London

Our expanding technology team now includes 8 partners and over 20 other qualified lawyers. As a result of continued increase in work levels we now have an opportunity for another mid level associate to join our team.

Working with 4 partners and a number of senior associates, this role will provide the opportunity to do a wide range of commercial work from outsourcing to IT and telecoms and general commercial work. You will provide advice and assistance to clients on a wide variety of non-contentious commercial, IT and IP matters including technology, commercial contracts, outsourcing, telecoms, data protection and e-commerce work. The majority of your work will relate to UK based clients or activities, but there will be a growing proportion of work with an international aspect, including off-shoring advice and international licensing work.

You will join an ambitious and busy team and will already have gained experience in running your own files and assisting senior lawyers on more complex, higher value deals and transactions. You will also be required to provide some guidance and support to recently qualified lawyers in the team. Accordingly we anticipate that you will already have gained the equivalent of at least three year’s relevant experience in a City, major regional or leading international firm.

US Securities Associate

Our International Capital Markets (ICM) team is looking for an Associate to work with a newly recruited Partner, Daniel Winterfeldt. Daniel heads up the firm’s ICM group which consolidates our extensive international debt and equity capital markets offering with the over 40 partners in 13 jurisdictions across the United Kingdom and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The ICM group will work closely with CMS lawyers in a further 15 CMS jurisdictions, in a total of 53 offices, in Western and Central Europe and beyond.

CMS Cameron McKenna has a substantial and active capital markets offering, handling transactions ranging from IPOs, secondary offerings and private placements to public and private mergers & acquisitions. The firm has advised a broad range of corporate clients and financial institutions in recent capital markets transactions, including Enterprise Inns, HSBC, Hunting, Investec, JP Morgan, National Grid, Pendragon, Royal Mail, Savills, TT Electronics and Deutsche Bank.

In order to assist in these matters you must be able to provide technical expertise used to deliver sound advice to clients and develop professional relationship.

Candidates will have strong ECM experience with a focus on transaction management, including documentation, disclosure and due diligence, for Regulation S and Rule 144A transactions. Debt Capital Markets experience would be an advantage. Ideally you will have previously worked in a Magic Circle or US equivalent firm. Given the complexity of the work we anticipate that candidates will need to have the equivalent of at least 3 years’ relevant pqe to meet the demands of the role.

Energy Solicitor - Power Sector

Role & Requirements

We are looking for a solicitor to join our expanding Energy group. The role will require you to be part of the Energy team principally supporting the power practice based in London.

Your main focus will be this industry specialism, although the role will give exposure to a variety of sub-areas of the power sector (including corporate M&A work, commercial regulatory, projects work and advice on a variety of power sector technologies).

In this role you will be expected to have experience and knowledge in Power Projects such as nuclear, renewables and CCS, advise on corporate transactions in the power sector, provide commercial and regulatory advice to power sector utilities, participants and investors and will be expected to acquire or deepen industry specific knowledge within the team.

The successful candidate will be degree educated (or equivalent), with the appropriate level of post qualification experience in ideally an energy sector background. Alternatively we will consider a background that allows for some re-skilling (e.g. Corporate/Commercial). You will have an excellent professional track record within a comparable firm and have experience in handling high value clients in major blue chip companies.

Candidates should be comfortable advising on high value transactions with excellent analytical and drafting skills with the ability to translate legal theory into practical advice. Good interpersonal and consultancy skills are also vital to this role.

Paralegal - Capital Markets

We are looking for a Derivatives Paralegal to work onsite with our client, Goldman Sachs, on behalf of the Capital Markets team at CMS Cameron McKenna. This role will be based in their Fleet Street office on a 6 month contract to start from mid June 2011.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the drafting of, and negotiating of, ISDA Master Agreements with counterparties based in Emerging Markets. You will be receiving and organising documents from the client, the other side and external sources in addition to organising internal documents. This will involve inputting information using bespoke software.

Individuals will need to have a Law degree with some legal experience, preferably within the banking sector. You will need to have an understanding and experience of ISDA Master Agreements and CSAs. Given you will be using bespoke software on site with the client you will need to be highly IT literate, with the ability to pick up IT systems quickly. Other IT experience including using MS office packages is also required.

Commercial Solicitor (Telecommunications)

Following a very significant client win in the telecoms sector CMS Cameron McKenna are looking for an associate to join their expanding Commercial Technology and Litigation Practice at a mid-level (probably with at least 2 years’ pqe) to work with Chris Watson, one of our 4 Partners in the Commercial Telecommunications practice in London.

Working as part of a fast growing team, the role will cover a range of telecoms and technology related work – primarily non-contentious preparation of commercial agreements, competition and regulatory advice. There may also be some contentious work and other cross-discipline matters – for example getting involved in other EU and international work within the sector.

The incumbent will also be involved in marketing and client management initiatives and will also be involved in related areas such as IT/IP matters.

The successful candidate will need to have experience in a strong telecoms team within a medium to large size city law firm or be in-house within the Telecoms sector.

Candidates should have strong non-contentious experience but experience of challenging the Regulators in Court would be very useful. You should be able to demonstrate a keen interest in the sector and flexibility given that there may be opportunities to work with our clients or in other parts of the firm internationally.

Other desirable skills include experience in EC and competition law as well as IT /IP, language skills with a willingness to travel and an ability and a appetite to master new fields of knowledge and law.

Real Estate Disputes Associate

The Real Estate Disputes team, part of the Real Estate practice group, provides comprehensive advice to a broad range of clients to avoid, manage and resolve real estate disputes effectively. We believe that a strength of the Real Estate practice area, both internally and externally, is that in addition to the transactional teams it includes two significant and recognised specialist teams in the shape of planning and disputes.

As part of our strategy to increase the Real Estate capabilities within our Bristol office, the team are looking to recruit a Senior Associate to work as part of the wider Real Estate Disputes team in London.

As a team we specialise in all types of property disputes, litigation, mediation and arbitration including;


Landlord and tenant disputes (such as rent reviews, breaches of covenants, statutory renewals of tenancies, forfeiture)

Claims under development agreements and other land contracts

Rights of light and party wall issues

Disputes relating to other easements and restrictive covenants

Nuisance and trespass claims, advice on agricultural tenancies

Professional negligence.

Areas of leisure licensing.


In order to assist in these matters you must be able to provide technical expertise used to deliver sound advice to clients and develop professional relationships with clients.

Candidates will have strong contentious experience with an excellent professional track record in a comparable firm. You will have experience of running a caseload with minimal supervision and will have excellent interpersonal skills. Given the complexity of the work we anticipate that candidates will need to have the equivalent of at least 5 years’ relevant pqe to meet the demands of the role.
