Job Description

• To profitably manage a caseload of catastrophic personal injury claims acting at all times in the
best interests of the Claimant.
• To assist the Team Leader with the supervision, monitoring and development of the less
experienced members of the team.
• To ensure that all of the work carried out within the Serious Injury Team is of the highest standard.
• To actively participate in the marketing and business development of NewLaw.

1. Case Handling

a. Each Solicitor will manage a workload of files, the number of files will depend on the
complexity and value of the case.
b. Solicitors will comply with the firm’s standard service levels and those that are applicable to
particular accounts as a result of client preference.
d. Solicitors will handle all cases in the best interests of the Claimant at all times. Any
circumstances that prevent this or create a potential conflict are to be reported to the Team
Leader and/or the Operations Manager.
e. Solicitors will manage their files to ensure that all time spent is accurately recorded.
f. Solicitors will manage their files to ensure that all payments made and received are accurately
recorded and the procedures relating to payment of disbursements and damages are
followed at all times.
g. Files will be maintained in accordance with the file maintenance procedures.
h. Filing will be kept up to date and in date order.
i. The Case Management system will be used properly and effectively in accordance with
agreed procedures.
j. Solicitors to monitor and manage own compliance with targets in respect of income
and file closure rates.

2. Mentoring

a. The Solicitor will assist in the supervision and development of the Paralegals, including those
working on other teams within the Personal Injury Unit.
b. Solicitor to assist in the delivery of the internal training programme.

Skills Required
• Qualified Solicitor/Legal Executive with extensive experience of dealing with catastrophic injuries cases that have been both high in value and technically complex.
• In depth knowledge of personal injury liability and quantum issues in particular with regard to injuries of the utmost severity including fatalities, and willingness to keep up to date with legal developments.
• Computer and keyboard skills
• Well developed communications skills, both written and verbal.
• Self motivated
• Ability to concentrate in an open office environment
• Ability to work to tight deadlines
• Good organisational skills
• Time keeping
• Effective people skills – good mentoring and training skills
• Ability to work to targets
