We are currently looking to recruit a lawyer specialising public procurement to join the EU & Competition Group in our Birmingham office. We are looking for a candidate who has from 4 years PQE.
The Candidate Required
Candidates must be technically excellent but equally important, commercially aware and enthusiastic about business development. They will be a team player with a strong client-focused approach. They will also have a strong academic background and excellent communication and organisational skills. They should be willing to handle a mix procurement work and there will also be opportunities for the candidate to develop expertise in State Aid work.
The Team
Pinsent Masons offers a team of 17 highly experienced public procurement lawyers that make us – we believe – the largest true specialist procurement team of any UK firm. The team consistently receives a number one ranking (nationally) in the Chambers Directory and in the Chambers' individual rankings the two partners in the team, Ruth Smith and Kate Rees, appear in the highest band (2 of only 4 procurement lawyers nationwide to be singled out in this way).
The team is unusual in having strength in all three major sources of procurement work; public sector, utilities and contractors, and we undertake a vast array of work for these clients, from small adhoc queries to structuring and running the procurement aspects of multi-billion pound projects. Clients also use us for strategic advice on their procurement policies and options in the face of new business opportunities or legal developments. Challenge work (both plaintiff and defence) has also been a feature of recent years.
Our public clients are drawn from many sectors: central and local government, government agencies, regional and regeneration bodies, housing associations, universities, health and emergency services. Our utilities clients encompass the water, electricity, post and transport sectors.
The team also has state aid expertise and is frequently called upon to offer seamless procurement and state aid advice in the (increasing number of) projects in which these two issues are intertwined.
