The Group/Team
Part of the Firm's largest Division, the Contentious Group has 30 partners and in excess of 100 other fee-earners firm-wide, providing litigation and dispute resolution services to blue-chip, house-hold name clients both nationally and internationally
The Role
Operating in our highly regarded finance litigation team, this role will support partners across the firm in further developing this rapidly growing practice area where prospects for career progression in the medium term are excellent.
Managing cases across the range of mainstream national and international banking disputes, working pre-dominantly for large financial institutions on issues which may include: commercial loans, asset finance, letters of credit, security, insolvency, fraud, asset recovery and anti-money laundering, financial regulation, capital markets and bank payments & charges.
Skills & Competencies required
Any successful applicant will need the following skills in addition to the general competencies for an Associate Level 2/3 as described on the Careers section of the website
Associate Competency Levels:
• A sound knowledge of banking & finance law in a litigation context.
• Familiarity with the banking industry and experience in dealing with in-house counsel.
• Ability to manage cases with initiative, drive and independence, beginning to lead other lawyers within the group structure.
• Flexibility, occasionally supporting cases across a range of other litigation issues.
• Keenness to be involved in the initiation and delivery of business development activities, forging strong client relationships.
• An aptitude for giving crisp, clear and practical advice.
• Commitment to team-building and promoting the group's best interests (for example in training, precedents, or know-how).

Background
The successful candidate will have:
• Excellent academic achievement with a minimum 2:1 degree.
• Experience of finance litigation gained within a comparable environment and at an appropriate level.
• Ability to achieve continuous improvement and development.
• Demonstrable business development capability.
• Clear understanding of the operation and structure of a Top 20 law firm.
