The Group/Team
The London Banking Group currently has 8 partners and approximately 30 other fee-earners, providing services to a range of clients. The group has two key areas: Real Estate Finance and Corporate Banking & Structured Finance.
Our key clients include all of the major high street banks, a number of investment banks, borrowers, originators and servicers. Our Banking group also has a wider presence in both our Leeds and Manchester offices.
The Role
There is a firm wide need for an experienced lawyer with proven Debt Capital Markets experience to join the banking team, supporting the structured finance partners. This role could be extended to Managing Associate level recruit for the right candidate. Whilst located within the Banking team, this role will be fundamental in supporting the firm's Corporate clients and developing synergies between the Corporate and Banking groups, in particular where we have a corporate market with high levels of debt needing to be rescheduled or renewed. This could be delivered through issuing bonds in the absence of a strong lender market in the current financial climate. The purpose of this role is to enable the banking team to grow and become more strategically aligned to the Corporate Finance team, delivering an excellent integrated service to our clients. Candidates should be keen to also get involved in wider structured finance work for our financial institution and corporate client base.
Skills & Competencies required
Any successful applicant will need the following skills in addition to the general competencies for an Associate Level 3/4 as described on the Careers section of the website
Associate Competency Levels:
Strong vanilla Debt Capital Markets experience essential. Preferably, candidates will have experience in additional structured elements of work of this nature;
Experience of a wide range of instruments including term notes, EMTN's and Commercial Paper preferred;
Experience of bond issues and debt restructuring;
Desire to work on broader section of Structured Finance related work.

Background
The successful candidate will have:
Excellent academic achievement with a minimum 2:1 degree
Experience of banking law gained within a comparable environment and at an appropriate level.
Clear understanding of the operation and structure of a Top 15 law firm.
Ability to achieve continuous improvement and development.
In addition, Managing Associate candidates will need to demonstrate their ability to manage themselves, manage the team and manage client relationships.
