Main purpose of the role:
Our full service shipping department handles international matters for international clients. We act for ship owners, charterers and operators, together with their insurers. Whilst several members of the team have sea-going experience, others have commercial experience gained in banks, insurance and oil trading so as well as shipping claims we also handle commercial and finance work. Increasingly, we are involved in the business of logistics and multi-modal transport. From our based in Europe we provide worldwide coverage for our European and global shipping clients.
The team offers a full-service maritime law practice covering the full range of contentious (Admiralty and dry) and non-contentious shipping work and we are looking to recruit to cover primarily the wet area of the practice.
The role will be to bring wet shipping experience to the team in order to service clients on a full service basis. However, the role is not exclusively "wet" and an ability to cover "dry" work and/or casualty investigation work is important. The team is focussed to an extent on oil & gas clients and developing of this work is important. An ability to supervise work amongst the junior members of the team is important.
Key responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have experience of wet/admiralty work however will be expected to provide general support to the Shipping team which will involve dry contentious shipping work.
You will assist the Partners in leading the Shipping team, undertaking all aspects of work generation, client work and relationship management, business development and financial management. You will also undertake a vitally important role in terms of supervising and developing junior lawyers.
You will have the opportunity to leverage off Eversheds' unique selling points so far as the market is concerned, including specialist sector expertise, international capability and a highly developed project management approach. This will involve opportunities in the local market, but also in respect of wider national and international initiatives within Eversheds.
You will support the achievement of the gross margin for the Product group along with key financial measures, such as utilisation WIP, write off. You will also be measured against client excellence delivery
