Reasons to be Cheerful
As 2010 starts in earnest what should we expect from the job market? A report over the New Year suggested that we are in the 'grips of a middle-class recession with huge numbers of university educated workers on the unemployment scrapheap'. Top of the 'Flops' were architects with a 936% rise in those seeking Jobseeker's Allowance over the last 18 months and lawyers came in just outside the Top 10 at no.11 - 401% increase! Not forgetting each one of the 1805 lawyers on Jobseekers is a personal tragedy we have genuine grounds for optimism, and that 2010 will see the start of the end of the legal recruitment 'recession'. John Lewis sales are up (!), CompareLegalJobs has opened for business, and more & more firms are not only talking about recruitment, but are actually recruiting new positions. All this since we came-back from the New Year break gives the legal recruitment market an extremely positive feel. What do you think? Reasons to be cheerful or not? By the way the film about Ian Drury which comes out this month is supposed to be great!
