Market Rate Salaries

One of our candidates' was speaking with his recruitment consultant at CompareLegalJobs the other day and asked about market rate salaries for a 2 year PQE lawyer in a mid-tier London firm. Sensible question. But got us thinking - is there such a thing as 'market rate' in this post recession era. Gone are the days when law firms competed on their NQ rates in order to gain a march on their competition. In fact today most firms don't even have a 'standard' rate let alone publicise them. With salary review time coming up for many it will be interesting to see what tactics the firms will adopt for the year ahead - after all the recession has officially ended!
