The future of the legal profession through the next decade

I was invited to a conference recently organised by the law firm group LawNet to discuss the future of the legal profession through the next decade. Everyone has a view on Tesco law etc. and the impact that it will have/or not have on so called ‘commercial’ work. A few interesting pointers came out of the discussions: firstly change is inevitable and one must make time for the future and identify and embrace critical trends in a legal market worth around £20bn. Secondly, it is only those firms that are led by leaders who pursue open innovation and who are able to create and communicate a true vision which in turn empowers colleagues to act are likely to prosper in this decade of turbulence. As Bill Cosby said: “I don’t know the key to success but the key to failure is trying to please everybody”. Is your firm responding to the changing world?
