3 killer questions to ask in your legal interview
Asking the right questions in your interview can make you stand out as a candidate. It changes the interview from a one-sided interrogation into a conversation between professionals. It also gives you further opportunity to show yourself as a technically able and client driven lawyer, and how you are the right person for the job. Here are a few examples to get you started:
1. "Tell me about what you're looking for in this position?" Asking this question will give you an indication as to what characteristics the interviewer is looking for the applicant to have. You can then point out similar skills and qualities that you have and how you will benefit the team.
2. "What's the greatest challenge for this position?" You want to know what their greatest problems are so you can tell them how you can work towards solving them. You can talk about similar situations you've dealt with, and show how you already know what it takes to be successful.
3. "What's the next step in this process?" This question will help close the “deal”. Not only will you give yourself a little more peace of mind by knowing what their timeline looks like, you demonstrate that you're proactive and confident as well as giving them an idea of how you'll deal with clients.
